How To Reflect On The Day In A Positive Way
If you don’t like it, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude. Don’t complain” – Maya Angelou
What is Something Positive That Happened To You Today?
As long as I can remember, this question surrounded me. I would come home from school and my mom would ask me if anything good happened that day.
I didn’t realize its significance and impact on me until I grew older.
This question helps me reflect on the day I had and to always look at the positives more than the negatives that occurred.
I’ve gotten to the point of realization that as much as I love to schedule every little aspect of my day, things are not going to go as originally planned. That’s okay. It’s life, unexpected.
Life Reset
Yesterday (Sunday) is a perfect example. It’s a beautiful day and I decide that I’m going to take full advantage of it by working on multiple research projects for school that
It’s a beautiful day and I decide that I’m going to take full advantage of it by working on a research project for a that is worth a good chunk of my grade.
In the morning, I open my computer to check on some emails and other small busy work before I start getting ready for the day. My computer is working just fine and I’m not having any issues with it.
Note: Before I go any further, you must know that I have a love-hate relationship with technology. I love it but it can be stubborn like me, and not always work the way I want it to.
I come back a couple of hours later to prepare for meeting in regards to my research project, only to find my computer doesn’t want to cooperate with me.
After attempting to restart my laptop and failing every single time, my last option is to reset my settings while still keeping all of my documents. If I lost any documents whatsoever, I was pretty much screwed. At this point in the semester, I can’t afford to have that happen.
Thankfully, that never happened but I had to add all of my major apps, emails, and programs (like Microsoft Office) and reconnect my printer all over again.
Overall, the process was stressful and overwhelming because I could have spent that time to work on the multiple other projects.
By now, you know the negatives. But let’s flip the tone and look at the same situation but with a positive outlook.
The Positive and What We Can Learn From It
I retaught myself everything the technology and programs that I use on a daily basis. It allowed me to think critically and I can use these skills in the future.
Yes, it took much longer than I had anticipated but now I actually (kinda sorta) know what I’m doing when it comes to technology.
I like to think I’m tech genius but in actuality, I’m really not. I like to say that I’m probably the least tech-savvy South Asian Millenial that you will come across. But hey, I’m learning. They say the best way to learn something is by doing.

This is great! I always ask my kids when i pick them up from school, “What was your favourite part of the day?”

Great post on the importance of positivity. It’s great that you found a way to find the positive side of what could be potentially a negative experience.
