How To Take Control of Your Mornings
Let me start off by saying that I am not the biggest fan of mornings person. If you ask anyone who knows me, they would tell you that I like my sleep a little too much. Here’s the thing though. If I’m up early in the mornings, I tend to accomplish more tasks. Actually getting my sleepy self out of bed is the only issue.
Side Note: I also want to give a shoutout to all of the moms, including mine, who have to get up at the crack of dawn to get their kids ready for school and still go to work or just accomplish everyday tasks. I salute you.
The past few weeks I’ve been slacking in the early bird department and I feel like it is showing. I’m not as motivated with most aspects of my life at the moment and the people around me have noticed.
But this morning I woke up (See what I did there 😉 Couldn’t help myself) from that blah feeling and more motivated than ever. The timing couldn’t come at a better time too because final project presentations are fast approaching sooner than I anticipated.
Eat Better, Feel Better
Rarely do I ever have time to eat breakfast, but when I do I’m the happiest girl you’ll ever see. If I’m up early, I require food and/or coffee in my system before I can have a full conversation without being Ms. Cranky Pants. Hopefully, I’m not the only one who feels this way.
Whether you get 8 hours or 2 hours of sleep, having breakfast in the morning should be a must. Granola bars don’t count as a meal, so I’ve been told one too many times. Try to be healthy by having a cup of chopped fruit and orange juice. When I’m home from school, I like to have a bowl of Honey Bunches of Oats and a big glass of water.
Positive People
I know I preach this in almost every post but it couldn’t be truer. This morning, became the perfect example. After grabbing breakfast, I ran into one of my favorite people on campus. Just seeing her face every morning makes me smile. She’s one of the funniest, warmest, kindest, and most encouraging women you will ever come across. If you looked up positive in the dictionary, you would see her picture. It’s impossible not to smile when you are around her.

So here I am, food in hand and very sleep deprived, but still grinning from ear to ear while chatting with her and leave the conversation with a more positive attitude.
Look Good, Feel Good
If I know beforehand that I’m going to have a busy day/week ahead or I pull another late night and don’t get much sleep, I’ve found that dressing up a little bit more than usual helps me in the morning.
Don’t go all sari and ballgown dressing up because that’s a bit too formal. Instead, try wearing your favorite shirt/jeans/dress/pair of shoes that makes you feel confident. Ladies, something simple as putting on your favorite shade of lipstick can make a world of a difference.
Looking like you’re put together will make you feel like you have everything put together even if in reality that’s not the case. Think of it as “Fake It ‘Til You Make It”.

Good tips. I never used to be a morning person but yes, motherhood has changed me. Most mornings i wake up at 5am now, before everyone else and go workout and i love starting my day like that 🙂

Great tips especially the eating better! I’m not a morning person either, but as I’ve gotten older my body has it’s own clock so sleeping late it harder and I love sleep too!
